The revolutionary Uranian energy that characterized August continues to shake us up as we begin September. Yet just as Uranus steps aside, eclipse season begins, bringing its own share of surprises. Expect higher energy levels all the way through October.
The month gets off to a hot start as Uranus stations to retrograde on the 1st. Expect the days around the station to offer up a strong dose of individuality, the need for independence, and – in some folks – irritability and impulsivity. This is a time to step away from routines and do your own thing. Uranus stations signal breakdowns, breakups, breaking out, and breaking free. It could be hard to find cooperation, so if others aren’t on the same page with your plans, go it alone.
Also on the 1st, Pluto retrogrades back into Capricorn, where he’ll be spending the rest of the year before moving on to Aquarius to stay. This transition is most likely to play out on the collective level, as we assess the changes to our institutions and government – the structures of society – since Pluto entered the sign back in 2008.
The high energy of the Uranus station contrasts with calmer vibe of the Virgo New Moon on the 2nd. This new moon is always a good time to assess what needs to be done before the end of the year, and perhaps to begin a program of healthy diet and exercise. Let the new moon drift by, and start making plans on the 3rd or 4th.
Between Uranus’ station and a Mars/Neptune square on the 3rd, the quiet of the new moon isn’t likely to last long. Mars/Neptune aspects can signal both excessive energy and sudden dissipation: like running out of the house in a hurry only to realize you forgot your car keys.
Mars then moves into Cancer on the 4th, where he’ll stay until November 3rd. In the sign of the crab, Mars tends towards a protective, clannish vibe that is less outgoing and focused than usual.
The weekend of the 7th/8th features two significant aspects. Mercury squares Uranus, an aspect that can mean rapid communication and brilliant ideas. Issues that started around July 21st and/or August 18th may get a revisit and resolution now. The Sun goes on to oppose Saturn, indicating that work needs to be done. Take on some home projects, or perhaps take some work home (students returning to school may have some homework to do!).
The Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse on the 17th is closely trine to Uranus and opposite Neptune. This is a high energy time when we’re likely to identify important matters, for better or worse, but are also very likely to see them out of proportion. Treat this as an experiential period that lasts from about the 15th through the 21st. While sitting idle isn’t a great strategy, it may not be the best window for making major decisions.
The Sun enters Libra, signaling the Autumn Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, on the 22nd at 8:43a EDT (13:43 UK, 5:43a PDT). For one day, the daylight and nighttime hours are equal, but alas the night grows longer as we head towards the Capricorn Solstice in December.
On the 25th, Mercury opposes Neptune. Treat the time between the 24th and the 26th as a “mini Mercury retrograde” and watch out for communication, transportation, and technology snafus.
