This August offers us a strong dose of Uranian energy. The planet of independence, individuality, and eccentricity is powerful all month long. It could certainly make for a hot month as we move through the dog days of summer into September. Ideally, this is a great time to do your thing, blending Leonine creativity and Uranian independence. Break out of the box, make changes as needed, and move away from routine (and you can’t spell routine without r-u-t).
The potential downside of this cosmic cocktail include impatience and frustration. No doubt we’ll be seeing this from folks who are not very grounded to begin with, but any of us can have a momentary lapse of perspective and control when the celestial winds blow hard. And while this energy is great for doing your own thing, keep in mind that others are also intent on doing theirs – cooperation may be hard to find, so be prepared to go it alone.
The party gets started early in the month, as Venus squares Uranus on the 2nd (remember that all these energies manifest for a day or so on either side). Venus in Leo wants to get out and have fun in a dramatic way, while Uranus is most concerned with changing things up. Uranus is in Venus’ home sign of Taurus, so it should be at least possible to negotiate social plans – do something a little out of the ordinary when it comes to socializing or relationships. With the Moon waning in Cancer, it may be easier to let go of past patterns than to decide on what to do going forward.
The August New Moon is on the 4th, in the sign of Leo. This new moon offers us the opportunity to get in touch with our creativity and fun – to put our intentions towards our joy.
Venus has other ideas. She leaves Leo for Virgo on the 4th. In the sign of the virgin, Venus is more service-oriented and reserved, and our social plans and experiences may begin to reflect this. Venus in Virgo is more about a vegan lunch than late-night parties – but take heart, as the Sun is still keeping things warm in Leo.
Mercury stations to retrograde on the 5th, and remember that is in the days right around the stations that the most pernicious retrograde effects often manifest. Judging by the Mercurial mishaps that have been happening as the Cosmic Messenger has moved through his shadow period in July, this could be a powerful retrograde. Mercury remains in reverse gear until the 29th.
Relationships and socializing – but especially relationships – are in focus from the 6th through the 10th. Retrograde Mercury meets with Venus, and partnership asteroid Juno opposes Neptune, enters Libra, and then trines Pluto. This looks like an opportunity to put relationships into soft focus, then make a decision about the future. Only relationships that at a tipping point are likely to be affected, but this is a chance to move things forward. An easy Sun/Jupiter sextile at the same time should help, with relationships and anything else.
At mid-month, things heat up. Cosmic Warrior Mars meets with Jupiter then squares Saturn, from the 14th through the 16th. There’s a lot of volatility in these configurations, but with Mercury/Gemini so prominent we can hope that the manifestations will be most on the verbal level. This is a time to be careful on the roads: good advice for all of August, and for that matter, always.
The energy builds rather than recedes as we approach the Aquarius Full Moon on the 19th. Before the full moon, Mercury squares Uranus and Venus squares Jupiter and opposes Saturn, and at the full moon Jupiter Squares Saturn. The Full Moon itself is square to Uranus, representing a peak in the Uranian energy. With so many aspects in the sky, it’s difficult say anything specific, but this is a very high-energy time for literally everything.
The Jupiter-Saturn aspect is sure to deliver significant developments on the social-political front. This aspect resonates with the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in late 2020, and you can look back to that time to see the themes that are likely to emerge now.
In general, the week between the 14th and the 20th is very charged. We’ll see a lot of activity, on the verbal level as well as in more concrete terms. In our personal lives, we can steer this energy with intentions, especially early in the period. As we approach the full moon, we’re more likely to see the results of past actions coming to light and our sense of control may be diminished.
The Sun leaves his home sign of Leo for Virgo on the 22nd, beginning his yearly rounds of the other signs. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the waning of summer and we become aware that autumn is approaching as days begin to be noticeably shorter.
Relationships are once again in focus from the 22nd to the 29th, as Venus squares Mars, trines Uranus, and opposes Neptune. She then enters Libra and trines Pluto. The feel for this period is one of ‘easy change’ in partnership patterns. Once again, we’re being called to step away from routine and innovate. The ability to make changes in relationships and socializing is strong, so take advantage.
Although Uranus technically stations to retrograde on September 1st, we’ll be feeling his energy strongly during the last days of August – as we have been feeling it all month long. The mantra for the month prevails: independence, innovation, individuality. Also in step with the entire month, patience will be at a premium and some folks are sure to have a challenging time with this celestial energy.
