Reversals are again the theme of the month, with Saturn, Mercury, Neptune and Juno all stopping in the sky to change direction. Saturn and Neptune have stepped onto the hot coals of Aries for long enough, and are going to retrograde back towards the cooler waters of Pisces (although they won’t get there for a few months). Partnership asteroid Juno stops in the middle of Scorpio, bringing intensity to relationships that are at a tipping point. And, of course, Mercury does his usual dance, retrograding from July 18 to August 11.
Yet the big news this month is Uranus’ entry into Gemini on July 7. The planet of revolution and sudden changes hasn’t been in the sign of the twins since 1949, and he really thrives in this sign. The keyword for Uranus in Gemini is ingenuity, and we’ll see an acceleration in technology and communication during his stay – which lasts until 2032. Just to give a short list of technological innovations that occurred during his last visit, we can note that sonar, jet engines, rocket technology, the atomic bomb, the aqua-lung, and on a more mundane level, the Slinky, Silly Putty, and Velco were all invented between 1942 and 1949.
The month starts with some firecrackers, or maybe all smoke and no bang, as Neptune stations to retrograde on the 4th. It should make for a pleasant-enough vibe if you’re making it a long weekend at the beach. Neptune stations are great for play, creativity, meditation, fantasy, and generally stepping back and letting serendipity rule. However, it is a very poor energy for making practical decisions, so even if you’re at work, be a little “off” from the 3rd through the 5th.
The July full moon is in the sign of Capricorn on the 10th. This full moon is a study in contrasts… for those of us above the equator, it’s summer time and an opportunity for fun, yet it’s also in Saturn’s work-oriented sign. Among other things, any miscalculations from last week’s Neptune station are likely to come to light, but more generally we may feel like we’re up for our ‘mid-year review’, as we assess our progress thus far in 2025.
The Saturnian vibe continues into the weekend, as Saturn stations to retrograde on the 12th. A somewhat heavy energy could prevail, and those in authority might be particularly prickly around this time. A good strategy for Saturn stations is to take care of whatever needs to be done before kicking back to relax. It’s not a time to try to get away with anything, and it’s a marvelously poor time to ask for favors from those in authority. If you’re at home, do a little house project (cleaning is always an option!). Be aware that minor illnesses like colds tend to circulate around Saturn stations, due to lowered vitality.
The New Moon on the 24th is closely opposite Pluto. Whether or not we see dramatic results immediately, there’s quite a bit of tension between the individual will (especially of leaders) and the collective.
Venus, planet of love and relationship, socializing, values and valuables, is very busy in July.
On the 4th, she meets with Uranus at the last degree minutes of her home sign of Taurus – the last time these two will meet in the sign for 77 years. Relationships could experience a bit of turmoil, but so could markets. Remember that Neptune is stationing to retrograde, so that we’re getting our information through a distorted fish-eye mirror, so that personal and collective reactions might be out of proportion to the actual situation. Keep calm with any developments between the 3rd and the 5th.
After meeting with Uranus, Venus dances into Gemini, where she’ll stay until the 30th. In this sign, Venus favors a lighter (“Lite”) approach to romance and socializing. Brunch with friends, backyard BBQs, and block parties come to mind as possibilities. During her first days in the sign she’ll make harmonious aspects to Saturn and Neptune, suggesting that tensions that built up can be released from the 6th onwards.
Venus goes on to square Mars around the 22nd/23rd, an aspect that could bring some friction to relationships. These two planets can generate passion when they tangle with each other but in the signs involved (Gemini and Virgo) there may be more talk than action.
When Venus enters Cancer late on the 30th, the social vibe changes once again. In the sign of the crab, Venus favors tradition and a more serious approach to connection. Think family reunions, staying closer to home and familiar environs, and relationship commitments.
