Dog Days – August 2026 Astrology Forecast

August is either a time to get away and relax, or an intense heatwave. How each of us will handle this month is up to us, but the skies are sending a blast of energy our way this August, mostly because it’s eclipse season.

The first center of action is on the 12th, at the new moon/solar eclipse at 20 degrees Leo. Solar eclipses sometimes have immediate manifestations, but very typically it takes about 18 months for the full effect to be known – that’s when there’s a full moon at the same degree. Still, planets at the eclipse point can ‘trigger’ the eclipse.

The second center of action is on the 28th, with the lunar eclipse at 4 degrees Pisces. Lunar eclipses manifest right away, and this one is likely to be a real firecracker, as the Sun and Moon are both tightly square to revolutionary and impulsive Uranus. Mercury is also in the mix, so watch for surprises in communication and transportation.

As August begins, Chiron stations to retrograde in Taurus on the 3rd. We’ll get a sense of what Chiron will be offering us as he trods through the sign of the bull for the next seven years. The focus is likely to be on resources and finances. Those with natal Chiron in Taurus (1976 to 1984) will be experiencing their “Chiron Return” in the next few years. The Chiron return is a time of reckoning with the bugaboo that Chiron represents in your chart.

Venus enters her second home of Libra on the 6th. In Libra, Venus represents elegance and beauty. In our social lives, Venus in Libra favors formal gatherings and minding our manners. Venus will stay in the sign of the scales until September 10th, which is rather long for Venus to be in a sign. She’s moving slowly because of her impending retrograde on October 3rd. In fact, Venus enters the shadow of her retrograde at the very end of August.

Mercury enters Leo on the 9th. When the Cosmic Messenger is in this sign, communication tends to be dramatic – but not always factually accurate.

Both Venus and Mercury spend their first week in their new signs connecting with the “basket” pattern that was exact in mid-July. They’ll be connecting with Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune between the 10th and the 13th, bringing the energy of outer planets into our personal lives. While the results may not be immediately dramatic (or they may be), this is a time when we may begin to see shifts in our relationships – of all sorts. What isn’t working is likely to be rejected, while new avenues for socializing and connecting open up. It’s certainly a time when we’re likely to say what’s on our minds and in our hearts.

Mars enters Cancer on the 11th. Typically thought of as a poor placement for the Celestial Warrior, when he’s in the sign of the crab Mars tends to advocate for family and clan rather than for either the individual or the greater collective. Watch out around the 17th when he squares Neptune in Aries – actions are likely to be impulsive and extreme.

The period between the 14th and the 17th is likely to be very active. We’re still in the midst of the eclipse energy as Mars squares Neptune and Mercury meets with Jupiter. This is a “no holds barred” kind of vibe that will have some folks acting erratically. On the other hand, this is a very good time to do or say something that you’ve been planning on for a while – just remember to apply the brakes as needed.

Mercury and Venus connect harmoniously with Saturn and Jupiter from the 17th to the 21st, perhaps offering opportunities to mollify excesses of the previous few days.

The Sun enters Virgo on the 22nd at 10:18p EDT. In the Northern Hemisphere, the days are already getting noticeably shorter as we move through the last sign of summer. We can begin to sense that autumn is coming as summer winds down. Folks in the Southern Hemisphere have a more optimistic outlook on this time of year, of course.

After the lunar eclipse on the 28th, Jupiter trines Saturn on the 31st. These two socially-oriented planets will be working on the project they began back in late 2020, when they met at the very beginning of Aquarius. Although not necessarily obvious in the moment, you may begin to see the tides turning in social and political matters.
