There are certainly some bold aspects in September, including Uranus’ station to retrograde on the 10th. But this month is more about bringing the energies home, as Mercury, Venus, and Mars are all quite active. With Venus approaching her retrograde station on October 3rd, we may be looking backwards to past relationships, social situations, and creative projects. Doing a little reflection before the actual retrograde is a good idea.
We get off to a tense start on September 1st, as Mars squares Saturn. Neither of these planets are happy in the their current signs, Cancer and Aries, so things may be a little ‘extra’ for a few days. In general, Mars/Saturn times can signify frustration and impatience, but you can accomplish a great deal if you focus. This isn’t a time for multitasking!
Venus takes center stage in the first week of the month, squaring partnership asteroid Juno and opposing Vesta on the 4th and 6th. These aspects suggest some adjustments are necessary in relationships, especially if we find that what we want or think should be (Venus) is not matching what we have (Juno).
Venus leaves her home sign of Libra for the dark waters of Scorpio on the 10th, but she’ll be back at the end of October, thanks to her retrograde. In Scorpio, the goddess of love tends to be somewhat self-protective and cautious – a vibe that is likely to flow through many social situations.
The 10th is a very busy day. In addition to Venus’ move, it is also the day that Uranus stations to retrograde. Uranus stations – from about the 9th through the 11th – tend to be times when folks are feeling for their independence, and cooperation comes at a premium. Do your own thing, but let others do their own thing, too.
The Virgo New Moon is also on the 10th. This new moon is about getting back to work and regular activities after the summer. It’s a very good time to assess what needs to be done by the end of the year – when the holidays will encourage us to put things on hold and wait until after the new year.
Mercury is in Libra from the 10th through the 30th. In Venus’ second home the Cosmic Messenger is diplomatic and given to bargaining. As soon as he enters the sign, though, he makes aspects to Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus, all on the 12th and 13th. We may find that diplomacy is upended, and bargaining yields uncertain results as we approach mid-month.
Relationships come into focus on the 15th and 16th, as Venus squares Pluto while Juno stations to go direct. The question – for those with partnerships in vulnerable places – will be, “Are we getting closer or moving apart.” The answer may not be permanent, but it will be relevant.
Mercury opposes Saturn on the 18th, indicating a time when there could be some conflicts with authority figures. It’s not a great time to ask for a favor or to put in for vacation time. However, given the signs involved, it may be possible to win an argument with those in charge. Still, winning isn’t everything, and being right doesn’t mean you won’t avoid the consequences.
The Sun enters Libra on the 22nd. Days and nights are of equal duration for one day, but in the Northern Hemisphere the Sun will spend most of the day below the horizon until the Aries Equinox in March. You may notice that the length of days is changing rapidly now, each day getting shorter by a few minutes – a week makes a big difference!
The Sun opposes Neptune on the 25th, then goes on to trine Pluto on the 26th. Sun/Neptune oppositions can lead us to make too much or too little of a person, turning them into heroes or villains. It’s not a great time for practical decisions, and yet the trine to Pluto suggests that something positive can come out of the confusion.
The Aries Full Moon on the 26th will bring to light whatever has been going on under the surface in the past week or so. We may find that illusions burst to reveal a stark truth that we can work with to create something of value.
Mars leaves Cancer for Leo on the 27th. In the Sun’s home sign, Mars favors dramatic shows of ability, talent, and force. Expect drama in the world of sports, along with some military parades.
The last major aspect of the month is the Sun’s trine to Uranus on the 28th. This aspect can help us ease out of routines and innovate in our daily lives.
